Argument Essay - Illegalize Alcohol Essay Example for Free

Contention Essay Illegalize Alcohol Essay Our nation is confronting a developing issue. It is an issue of good rot. The legitimate and open utilization of liquor is a pointless bad habit that is delighted in and acknowledged by a greater part of the United States populace, lamentably, it prompts social and good defeats. Liquor ought to be held to indistinguishable measures from other illicit psyche and body-modifying substances, as liquor is irresistible and has no clinical worth. Administrators and dynamic voters should put a through and through restriction on liquor. The income that is produced from the assembling, circulating, and deals of liquor is a significant wellspring of available salary that is an advantage. Starting at 2007 the U. S. Government was gathering $5. 6 billion dollars yearly from the tax assessment from liquor (joshritchie). This income has would in general increment every single year. In spite of the fact that the income is significant, the inquiry must be posed, is it moral? Is it moral for our administration to benefit off the offer of a trivial bad habit that causes fatalities and makes addicts? The income that is produced using the tax assessment from liquor could be lost, and would basically build our ceaseless national obligation by a miniscule sum. From the beginning of time our nation has confronted a few social scourges that have brought about numerous individuals turning out to be substance abusers. In spite of the fact that these occasions our administration has stepped in and upheld laws to reestablish the good and social texture of the tainted regions. The present pestilence that we are confronting is the maltreatment of liquor. It is across the board and accessible wherever in our nation. â€Å"According to the Alcohol-Related Disease Impact (ARDI) apparatus, from 2001â€2005, there were roughly 79,000 passings yearly owing to over the top liquor use. † (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Beyond the quantity of the passings that are identified with liquor consistently, a stunning number of individuals in the United States are heavy drinkers. As indicated by the National Library of Medicine, â€Å"nearly 17. 6 million grown-ups in the United States are drunkards or have liquor problems†. (U. S. National Library of Medicine) We have to totally boycott liquor with the goal that we can begin taking a shot at diminishing the quantity of addicts in our nation as opposed to urge the utilization to everyone similarly as the individual in question turns a specific age. The United States government has just attempted to boycott liquor before, it was a finished disappointment and thusly revoked. This endeavor brought about a spike in sorted out wrongdoing and was a conspicuous disappointment. Inevitably the administration yielded and re-sanctioned the utilization of liquor. I also will surrender that it was a disappointment with respect to our administration in implementing the restriction of liquor. Indeed, even today we are taking on precisely the same conflict by the DEA with the Controlled Substances Act. There is as of now an extensive rundown of illicit substances that are given needs and plans and are in this manner upheld. It would not be a stretch to join liquor into this rundown of illicit medications. Many would state that it is hard to uphold the negligible utilization and assembling of limited quantities of liquor by people in there own homes. It is an exceptionally basic procedure to either mix low liquor content beverages or to distil higher liquor content spirits. The implementing of these laws would be like current laws of cannabis development. These laws would appear to be similarly as difficult to implement, yet they are authorized. The assembling of custom made liquor could be given a similar dread of discipline and could be implemented on occurrence to-episode bases. Liquor tends to build the likelihood of somebody carrying out a brutal wrongdoing. On the off chance that liquor were prohibited and harder to take a few to get back some composure of this number of violations would extraordinarily reduce. The National Center for Victims of Crime has referenced the U. S. Division of Justice concerning medication and liquor related violations. The report states, â€Å"The U. S. Branch of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics National Crime Victimization Survey asks the savage wrongdoing casualties who announced seeing their guilty parties whether they saw the wrongdoer to be affected by medications or liquor. As per the 1999 overview, over a fourth of the fierce wrongdoing casualties could make such an assurance. Around twenty-eight percent (28%) of those detailed that the wrongdoer was affected by liquor as well as medications. The most well-known substance distinguished was liquor alone. Around sixteen percent (16%) revealed that the guilty party was affected by liquor alone (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2001). † (The National Center for Victims of Crime) This solitary considers the casualties that had the option to see their guilty party; this implies there are conceivably more unaccounted for liquor related wrongdoings. The legitimate and open utilization of liquor as a bad habit is prompting the ruin of our general public. It is making addicts while not offering a solitary pragmatic health advantage. The United States Government has just contributed time, cash, and exertion to upholding its Controlled Substances Act. Liquor ought to be held to indistinguishable gauges from all other truly changing substances are held to. Liquor represents the danger of reliance and has no useful clinical worth. So as to begin the ethical texture of our nation we have to get rid of the wrongdoing initiating substance liquor. Officials and dynamic voters, it is our obligation to hold our selves to better expectations and totally cancel the assembling, deal, and utilization of liquor. Works Cited Alcoholism: MedlinePlus. France s Old Regime Was Plagued With Problems - 1603 Words

France’s Old Regime was plagued with problems. During the Enlightenment, these problems were highlighted and highly criticized. Enlightenment thinkers called for people to start thinking for themselves, and to break off the chains of thought that oppressed them. They did not, however, call for revolution, nor were they necessarily pro-democracy. What they were interested in were practical reforms. In a system as broken as the Old Regime was, even the most practical of changes could seem revolutionary. Diderot and Turgot were two Enlightenment thinkers whose works exemplify this. Both men hid their more drastic thoughts behind seemingly less radical ideas and themes. Neither of the men, however, necessarily called for revolution, at least not the kind that France would get. Some of their ideas stemmed from previous writers, such as Loyseau and Bossuet, whether they agreed with them or not. Diderot and Turgot would find many areas of agreement with Loyseau, but they would largel y disagree with Bossuet. In terms of authority and nobility, Diderot and Turgot were radical critics of the Old Regime, and the areas of agreement between them and Loyseau demonstrate that the legitimacy of the Old Regime, though not entirely in question during Loyseau’s era, was suspect enough to inspire the seeds of thought that would bring about the Enlightenment. The nature of authority in the Old Regime was absolute. Question: Discuss about the Exploring Nursing Expertise in Residential Care . Answer: Introduction: Person centered assessment is considered as a crucial aspect in rendering customized and individual suited health and social care services to cater to the specific needs, preferences and demands of the person through exhibition of enough respect and accurate responses to their requirements. Planning, improvisation and monitoring of care is carried out by means of this approach to better recognize the health outcomes that is adequate to address the definite issues relevant to the person (Starfield 2017). This person centered care has received much attention and prominence in the recent years to address specific needs pertinent to geriatric individuals who require specialized care services congruent to their health condition (Martnez et al. 2016). In the following essay, this approach will be demonstrated with respect to an old person named John who has been admitted in the residential aged care setting to receive proper care and treatment for his prevalent condition of dementia that h as markedly affected his quality of living. In an effort to enhance the quality of life in the given setting, promotion of everyday activities will be beneficial (Edvardsson et al. 2014). Analysis and discussions will be carried out with respect to the given scenario and in compliance with the measures readily available to handle such circumstances. In course of my interaction with John I came to know that he is in greater need for emotional support rather than clinical intervention to account for better holistic outcomes. The care provided must be congruent to respecting the clients preferences. Coordination and integration of care will facilitate the alleviation of feelings of vulnerability of the client. Further provision of adequate information and education will allay all sort of apprehension and fear of the client specific to the condition. Physical comfort will be given through proper pain mitigation strategy and assistance offered in course of activities of daily living. Better outcomes may be expected on involvement of family and friends while continuity and transition to care will be further enhanced through assembling of adequate information regarding the medications, dietary requirements and physical limitations. The key issues identified from Johns perspective included inability to perform activities of daily living due to restricted mobility, lack of family support couple with disorientation of thoughts and forgetfulness because of the debilitating condition of dementia. However the positive aspect includes the clients strive to lead a better life without depending much on others that must be treated with dignity, respect and sensitivity through proper decision making efforts. Person centered care is generally carried out in the outpatient care facilities as well as community based setting in case of older adults suffering from chronic conditions and functional impairments. Traditional biomedical model has been replaced in this context for personal choice and autonomy with respect to the service recipients. The multifaceted approach normally resort to six noteworthy domains encompassing holistic care, choice, value and respect, dignity, self determination in conjunction with purposeful living. The measurement of the person centered care in case of these clients has been found to be heavily dependent upon factors including self, family apart from service provider and organizational facilities. Matters relevant to health and social aspect of the client need to be addressed properly to account for better outcomes. The need for standardization of the accepted parameters with regards to the person centered care has been emphasized in literature (Kogan, Wilber a nd Mosqueda 2016). Further study has highlighted upon the application and effective utilization of a composite person centered care model characterized by usage of Montessori principles. Emphasis was laid upon developing the capacity and ability of the dementia residents by virtue of considerable changes made in the context of staff education, environmental modification along with organizational involvement and community participation. Curtailment of the rates of antipsychotic and sedative medications apart from significant behavioral alterations was noted after the introduction of the model. Experienced organizational culture along with enhanced knowledge and insight regarding dementia on the part of the staff working at the dementia care facilities harbored positive outcomes that satisfied the family members of the affected individual as well. Hence adoption of this specific model is found to be beneficial in the residential aged care facility (Roberts et al. 2015). Other studies have considered the psychological needs of the patient with dementia that must delve deeper into catering to the needs related to attachment, inclusion, identity, comfort and occupation through referring to the central theme of love. The impact of the caregivers on the individual has been of particular importance that aims to address the interaction between the individual and the environment. The efficacy of a person centered observational tool (FADe) to recognize fear and anxiety components among the dementia patient has been tested in a research. The subsequent treatment methodologies and intervention strategies to be adopted by the physicians in association with other healthcare practitioners has been recommended to create conducive environments devoid of fear and anxiety for ensuring better health related outcomes and quicker recovery (Traynor et al. 2016). The need for implementation of definite effective strategies for delivering utmost person centered care has been attended to in study where the role of the healthcare staff is given much importance. The competency, skills, domain related knowledge and prudence of the healthcare professionals are desirable in this respect to steer positive changes in dement ia care for the aged person. Improvements in attitudes and perceptions towards the dementia affected individuals by the staff were reported after formal training to account for increased satisfaction among the service receivers. Changes in attitudes of the staff were noted through provision of foundation level training (Surr et al. 2016). Other empirical findings have emphasized upon relationship building, effective communication, maintaining the respect and dignity of the patients to generate fruitful results on the part of the healthcare and nursing professional responsible for treating patients with dementia. Within the nursing home setting, overcoming the cultural and educational barriers by the service providers was identified to be particularly challenging. Quality of living underwent significant improvement for the dementia affected through staff training based on dementia care mapping in conjunction with person centered care. Tendency to succumb to the pressure of social exclusion has also been found to majorly impact the behavioral and cognitive outcomes in case of the dementia patient thereby necessitating the responsibility of the staff to nurture the emotional and spiritual needs of the dementia affected (Yasuda and Sakakibara 2016). Another recent study focused on the issue of efficient implementation of national guidelines for person centered care of persons with dementia within the framework of residential aged care facility. Effects of intervention on person centeredness of care were evaluated in course of the study design that depicted vital implications. At the follow up, significant alleviation of the staff stress of conscience as noted that indicated the enhanced capacity of the staff to render the best quality care to the concerned individuals. Systematic and interactive intervention modality comprising of knowledge transition, generation of novel and pragmatic ideas as well as dissemination of pertinent knowledge to the staff lead to the improved outcomes in the dementia affected population in line with the national guidelines. Thus establishment of proper national policy will act to address the situation relevant to the aged dementia affected individuals thereby aiding in the professional practice of t he staff operating in the residential and hospital based setting (Edvardsson, Sandman and Borell 2014) (vide Appendix 2). The suitability of the person centered care in providing holistic solutions to aged persons suffering from dementia has been reported across various academic literatures. The prevalence of a congenial working environment within the residential aged care facility or community based setting has been proposed to bear fruitful outcomes. Encouragement of a positive and supportive psychosocial climate together with a working environment where there is a balance between the workload and output of the staff to ensure a person centered care practice. Heightened satisfaction of the staff, reduced levels of job strain along with lower levels of stress of conscience have been tested to account for better responses in the patient (Sjgren et al. 2015). Further nursing expertise in treating these patients have stressed upon the need to maintain the ethical and moral virtues while providing care services to the vulnerable population. Definite skills must be applied to bring about optimal outcomes in the patients. The ensuing challenges that might appear due to educational insufficiency, knowledge gap and cultural incongruity must be adequately addressed to mitigate the problem (Phelan and McCormack 2016). Hence similar interventions and strategies may be applied in the context of John who is likely to be benefited by such measures to improve his quality of life as a consequence to dementia. The success and applicability of the person centered care to treat the aged patients suffering from dementia has long been established. The primary responsibilities rest with the healthcare professional entrusted with the duty of caring these persons to harbor maximum outcomes and holistic development. Significant improvements in terms of enhanced quality of living may be expected under satisfactory execution of the duty with respect to dealing with the affected individual by those healthcare staff. Therefore acquisition of prudent knowledge and skills to execute the duty is desirable through proper formal training (Olsson et al. 2013). The barriers and challenges encountered in course of rendering adequate care to these patients thus need to be deftly handled by the healthcare professionals through proper resources and evidence based practices in conformity with the existing ethical and legal competencies for providing satisfactory solutions to the concerned individuals. There are many people are doing pop music, and the age of people who are doing it are very wide, like in Korea, a group called Girls Story. They are the youngest ever pop music group with an average age of below 10, and they have already released their own album. And there is another band in Britain called The Simmers. The oldest member was born In 1913, and he has died two years ago which he was already 98 years old.In Britain, there are quite a lot famous pop singers Like one direction, Carrey Rae Jeeps, Justine Bibber, Iranian, Kathy Perry and etc These singers are all very popular in 2012. In the past decades, teenagers love pop music and they love to learn from it like raping and dancing.It has become an important part in their daily lives. Teenagers could also learn more vocabulary or even other foreign languages from the music. However, some type of pop music has involved some slang or swearword in it which are not a proper language and they are not good for children to learn. In this 21st century, the majority of people are listening to pop music but there are still loads of people prefer listening to classical music instead of pop music. But for me, I like both pop music and classical music. This is the end of this weekly potash. See you next week, bye bye! Pop Music free essay sample Nearly every person In society today has some kind of music that they listen to dally, but most do not realize how much they are missing out on. Most people today follow what music Is popular and what everyone else Is listening to, which only consists of a couple of different genres and a list of musical artists that sound nearly the same, who have One-Halt Wonders on the popular charts.Although nearly everyone in todays society has some kind of love for music, most people are missing out on the full experience due to either the lack of understanding and knowledge, or the fear of trading away from what is popular, to discover new musical frontiers. Many people, especially teenagers would put up an argument defending why they believe that popular music is the best music out there.They would defend Pop music with reasons such as, that they can dance to the music, the artists are rich and famous, and that the artists are seen as cool, or simply the fact that they dont care that much abo ut It, all they like is the beat and tune of the songs. We will write a custom essay sample on Pop Music or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Musical artists today are seen as many of todays pop-culture Influences and are looked up to by any teens and young adults. Music Is one of the most discussed topics, and many find that by listening to popular music, It allows them to fit In, and share something In common with everyone else.Artists In todays music scene should become popular based on their own talent, and many fans will put up their best arguments to explain why their favorite is popular, such as, My favorite artist, (Insert any random pop artist here), is way better than the stuff you listen to, they have such talent with their lyrics and music, you just wouldnt understand it (Any Pop Listener, 2013). There is a large percentage of people who only listen to music, because they enjoy the tune or beat of the song, and not as much about the songs meaning or lyrics, which can be understandable.Although it can easily be argued that there are some talented artists who are very popular, that artist usually only has one or two songs that have been hits, then after their songs arent popular anymore, the artist becomes forgotten and lost In the sea of talent outside of Pop music. Most of the arguments defending Pop music all come from Ignorance and lack of understanding on the fans part. Most of todays Pop artists are nearly talents due to the fact that most of them do not write their own music or lyrics, they pay another artist who actually has musical knowledge. In fact, what teens and young adults are too young to realize, is that about half the songs on todays Pop charts have a sample or part of another song, bought, so that the Pop artist can use it in their own song. There is a list of songs that can be named that have been on the Pop charts recently that have taken parts from songs from the sasss and sasss. Some, if not all artists n the Top 10 chart dont really write their own lyrics, and dont know how to play any instruments or have any knowledge of it to be able to write their own songs.Artists today are very often taken as a people who are seen as attractive or cool, and are put as the cover person for music, because the Industry knows that the person will attract fans due to the way that person looks. Pop artists In todays society are seen to fortune, but these artists are not people that society should be looking up to. If anyone were to look up the lyrics or actual meaning to many Pop songs, they would cost likely be astonished. Pop songs today are usually written on subjects such as: disrespecting women, drugs, partying, alcohol, and the artist bragging about how rich they are. Artists like these should not be role models, especially to the newer generations of teens and young adults. If society were to directly follow the influence of todays Pop artists, social structure would fall apart completely. If people were to take a step back, and look outside the pool of Pop music, they might find that there is a sea of talent in many other genres. A good example of that s found in todays Hard Rock and Metal genres of music. Many people today are too ignorant to try giving Metal music a chance, due to the fact that it is seen as scary and unacceptable.People think that metal music is evil, because of the way that it sounds at some times and the way the bands look. The reality of metal music is that the lyrics are motivational and inspiring, and the hardcore look and sound is to get people moving and create a unique style. Unlike Pop music artists, most metal artists are generally very talented, write all of their own music, play at least one instrument, ND are very well mannered people outside of the studio.Metal artists express true feeling and emotion throughout every one of their songs, whether the emotion is love, anger, confusion or even telling a story of a life experience. Some of the most hardcore bands in the music industry may not seem like it, but write some of the most beautiful, inspiring lyrics of any songs out there, that could never be found in Pop music. Such as the Hardcore Metal band, Of Mice Men. Proud of who you raised up. You know that I will always be here till the end. Come back so I can say hank you for this. Home cooked meals and a place to rest.My troubled head when {Oer away. Vive passed the test, Vive earned an A. Not Just in school, but in life. Youll always be right by my side to help me show hope to all that are lost and sick in this dying world. Ill use the love you left behind. Ill change their minds, Ill change their minds. I hope, I hope you smile when you look down on me. I hope you smile. : Second and Severing by Of Mice Men) Front-man of the band, Austin Carlisle, rote the lyrics of this song for his Mother who had passed away while the band was cording their first debut album.The song sounds like a crazy, scary, hardcore song, but when listening to the lyrics, the meaning completely changes. Although the singer is screaming the lyrics to the song at the top of his lungs, the raw emotion and power behind the lyrics can easily be felt, and it is enough to inspire anyone. Irish is only one of many examples of how metal music can motivate and inspire people. Stories and letters of how metal music has motivated people to keep going and saved their lives are all over the internet already. Music artists like these should be looked up to, rather than Pop music artists. In todays world nearly every person has love for some kind of music, but not all people are willing to stray away from the barrier that is Pop music, due to either lack of understanding or fear of being different than everyone else. People should have an open mind when it comes to music, and should find a genre that truly fits them as person and makes them a better person. Everyone should look up to those with good moral values and be inspired by artists who are like them as people. Pop Music free essay sample Who sang at the Grammas in Spanish in the late sass? CONFIDENTIALITY IN PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

CONFIDENTIALITY IN PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE - Essay Example Confidentiality in health care is covered in Data Protection Act 1998 in force from March 1, 2000 covering ‘all social services and health records.’ (Beech, 2007) It’s important for patient to know that personal information won’t be disclosed or used without permission. However, in certain situations there is an ethical dilemma between the need to preserve confidentiality and disclose personal information for specific purposes. The breach in patient’s confidentiality can be possible if it concerns public interests. Although protecting confidentiality in health care is usually paramount, the legal obligation to maintain confidentiality is not absolute (McHale 2000 in Beech, 2007). Under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 healthcare staff can disclose personal information in case of severe crimes or terrorism or in case when identification of people involved in traffic accidents is needed. The information can be disclosed also to assist the police to prevent murder, rape and kidnapping. So disclosure happens in situations when an individual is at risk of being seriously harmed when the information is not disclosed. (Beech, 2007). Personal information can be revealed in cases of certain infectious diseases when the law requires health providers to inform public health authorities. When it concerns public interest the breach of confidence is justified according to a common law justification. For example, when a nurse is aware of threat to public safety like in case when a person with epilepsy rides a motorbike, one is entitled to notify driving medical authorities. The same is true in case of communicable disease or sexually transmitted infections. It’s appropriate for the health care professional to inform a partner of the infected person of the possible threat. The breach of confidence here is justified on the basis of harm prevention. (Clinical Confidentiality, 2005) The laws

What is the Roman Republic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

What is the Roman Republic - Essay Example This class of people controlled nearly all religious offices plus issued partum auctoritas (final assent) to some of the decisions passed by the Roman assemblies. The rich had more influence on politics at that time. However, in staying in a Roman Republic and still subjected to injustice just like the eras of Kings, the poorer Roman citizens were not happy with how the current government became ran. Due to unfair distribution of land and debts, the plebians (poorer Roman citizens) became prompted to form their own assemblies and withdraw from certain city-states. The plebians principal demands remained debt relief plus equitable distribution of conquered territory to Roman citizens. In 287 B.C., wealthier, land rich plebians managed to achieve political equality to the patricians with the Conflict of orders in place. Hence, there was a rebirth of the political system consisting of plebians and patricians, a power-sharing partnership which remained up to the late 1st century B.C. The Republic had a government running it. The government had three main parts: The consuls, the assemblies and the senate. Rome managed to grow and become a metroplolis consisting of a capital city and vast conquered territory. Roman Republic had provinciae (administered territories) outside Italy like Spain, Sicily, Sardinia, and many others. As the new government acquired more wealth, so did the Roman citizens benefit. The Republic had a strong Army in place responsible for winning many battles and acquiring new territories. With Roman soldiers winning more battles and getting rewarded more, they became more loyal to their generals than the state. During the same period, Rome became increasingly plagued by many slave uprisings since they were the majority and covered most lands. Between 135-71B.C., there were 3 ‘servile wars’ that involved slaves against the Roman state. The worst of them was the third and was under the command of Spartacus, a gladiator. Furthermore, in 91 BC, social war broke out over dissent between Rome and Italy. Italy often contributed men in Rome’s military campaigns but received no rewards for their help contributed to the social wars. This led to them breaking away from Rome and becoming independent. Romans started also to wage wars with their previous allies too, like Jugurtha. In 111BC to 104 BC, the Jugurthine war became fought between Jugurtha of North Africa and Rome. Jugurtha became finally captured through treachery instead of a battle. In addition, we also had the wars between the Romans and the Carthaginians. The second Punic war involved Hannibal, a Carthaginian that attacked Rome. This had much impact on the Romans since they could not defeat Hannibal for 15 years. The Rome mastered and improved their military warfare after endless attempts in fighting with the great commander. It became the tactful help of a Roman, Scipio Africanus, that attackeds Carthege capital leading to the defeat of Hannibal in the battle of Zama. Internal unrest reached its peak as evidenced by two civil wars caused by Lucius Cornelius Sulla, a consul in the beginning of 82 BC. The Roman army led by Sulla overthrew the Republic and paved way to the founding of the Roman Empire. The new wealth generated social break down and led to political turmoil, which eventually led to collapse of the Republic. In fact, they had issue of people trying to kill those in power in order to overthrow them. For instance, the first Catiline’s conspiracy occurred when Catiline intended to slaughter the new counsels on the day of election and name himself as head of office. In addition, Tiberius Gracchus got killed due to his stand to pass a law that would leave the rich

Chapter 2 - research methodology Essay Example for Free

Chapter 2 research methodology Essay Aim and Objectives. The aim of the research is to undertake an analysis of the Chinese banking industry systems, processes and products through a case study of Bank of China and HSBC, London. Objectives. The research objectives are as follows :- 1. Assess the overall state of the Chinese banking systems, processes and products. 2. Evaluate implementation of systems, practices and processes of the modern banking industry. 3. Evaluate areas for further growth and development by Chinese banks. This chapter aims to illustrate the methodology of the research. It describes; common research philosophies, research approaches and the research strategy. Veal (2000) has described research as â€Å"systematic and careful inquiry and search for the truth† or an investigation into a subject to discover facts. What is Research? Research is a well defined area of study of a particular problem or issue in its totality or in specific to a particular area of concern. (Veal, 2000). Research should entail the following characteristics, which will be kept in mind by the author while evaluating the subject (Morgan, 2000):- (a) Systematic collection of data. (b) Analytical interpretation of data. (c) Developing a theory and conclusion. The Research Philosophy Modern research has three models; these are positivism, realism and interpretivism. (Cantrell, D. C. (n. d. )). Positivism Positivism entails a scientific stance for research and interpretation of data. Thus only those phenomenon which are observable and measurable are regarded as knowledge. Positivists maintain an independent and objective stance. (Cantrell, D. C. (n. d. )). Phenomenology (Interpretivism) This is opposite of the positivistic approach and is known as interpretivism or phenomenology. (Cantrell, D. C. (n. d. )). Though positivistic and interpretivism paradigm are two extremes, most researchers use elements of both practices, which is implied in realism. This approach is considered the most appropriate for the project as the writer will be carrying out a comparative analysis of the Chinese and the British Banking system with a case study of the Bank of China vis a vis HSBC, London. Since banking systems are not just financial and economic systems but involve social issues in the context of a broader socio-political environment, a realistic approach to research is considered the most suitable. Research Approach There are two strands, which can be adopted, deductive and inductive. The deductive approach is used when a hypothesis is developed and the research design has to test that hypothesis. The deductive approach is amplified by means of a diagram at Figure 1 (Trochim, 2000). Figure 1 On the other hand the inductive approach is related to qualitative data, as a sample used in a case study as contrasting to the large quantum of data which is used in the deductive approach. A theory is said to be developed from data collection in this approach. A diagram showing the inductive approach is at Figure 2 below (Trochim, 2000):-Figure 2 The dynamic nature of the research will entail application of both approaches by the author as in practice almost all the research projects have elements of both the approaches in view of the importance of including both qualitative and quantitative findings. Research Data In general data contains information collected and recorded in note books, questionnaires, audiotapes, videotapes, models, photographs, films and test responses. (Veal, 2000). Research data in this case will be the response of selected customers and managers of Bank of China and HSBC, London. based on a questionnaire.

Computers In Education :: Technology

Computer's Value in Education What is an education? Education is defined as "the knowledge or skill obtained or developed by a learning process or an instructive or enlightening experience" (Dictionary 1).It says that it's the knowledge obtained, but does it matter where this knowledge is obtained? We now use computers in our society, which allow us to do many things. However, in today's society, children go through their entire education using the computer. There is now cyber schooling, where a child no longer attends school but learns at home in front of their computer. Should this, however, be how students learn and become educated? We, as Americans, educate our children by putting them through years of schooling. A child is suggested to go through 13 years of schooling. After graduating high school, it is greatly recommended to go further onto college to become more educated in certain areas. There are thousands of schools throughout America, however. Therefore, the students at the many schools will learn different things. We gain our knowledge through many resources during these years of learning. Teachers, other students, computers, and much more are ways we attain our education. Computers are a dynamic addition to education, and could be considered to be almost like a school in itself. Computers have advanced our knowledge greatly since we have introduced them into our society, and started to use them in our everyday lives. This being the reason we now use them greatly in schooling. Computers in schooling are used for many things. Computers enable students to share learning with others. Computers can greatly enhance the writing process of a student. It allows them to change things easily, cut things out of writing and move it to different places, add pictures, and many other attributes to writing. Computers should be compared to encyclopedias, libraries, newspapers, television and any other information tools used in the classroom. Computer knowledge does not however, replace any of the subject area skills. However, the spelling ability of a computer is much greater than most human's ability. It has almost a built in dictionary which is not like a typical human. Students need to learn to do research on the Internet, but they also need to learn to research books. Students also need to learn to use a spellchecker, but they also need to learn to spell correctly and proofread their work without a computerized grammar checker.

Fiero’s Greek Civiliation

I believe Fiero’s first humanist actually seems to start in early Greek civilization. † Greeks were called the humanists of the ancient world†. (Fiero 30) The Greeks were known for their art, literature, as well as their religious culture. Fiero also refers to the humanistic period in which the great historian Thucydides wrote â€Å"The History of The Polynesian War† (Fiero 37) which we see celebrates the Greek culture in Athens during the Polynesian War. I believe this was a great example of the humanist in the Greek culture by showing the true spirit of Greek patriotism and community of the Greek people.We also see Fiero use the Greeks use what was called â€Å"symmetry†, on their statues and paintings. They believed the true aspect of the human being should be shown in actual form. They also show such detail and the proportion was correct. They also show that the human body was a work of art. We also see Fiero use the example of the â€Å"Partheno n† as the Greeks style of architecture. On the actual â€Å"Parthenon† they had the four horsemen, water bearers, and the showing of the festival in which the tribute to Helen was shown. This shows me that the Greeks were all about depicting the greatness of their civilization.The Romans basically copied the art and most of everything else so I will go straight to the Renaissance. Fiero refers to the Renaissance as the revival of the Greco-Roman culture. (Fiero 183) This was revised by the Aquinas. They were looking at this as the† fulfillment of the human potential†. (Fiero 183) This is what I see in the art of the Renaissance is that the pieces had depth and perception and proportion and symmetry just like the Greco-Roman style. Fiero comments that new Renaissance humanists have religion in their lives but look at their intellectual curiosity has appealing and appeasing.According to Fiero the most Renaissance Humanists was â€Å"Francesco Petrarch†. (Fiero 184) I believe Francesco was a restorer of early Latin works. I believe he was trying to bring to life the old classics of the Greek world. I think he wanted to show that he was a great poet as Cicero. I think he was torn on whether he was a great believer or reasoner. I believe he chose to be a believer. In his sonnet I think he was torn on his love for his lover or his love of words. I see these as examples of Fiero’s humanism.

The Fight Against Racism And Discrimination - 1737 Words

Michelle Chansuyco History 110 Class Number – 30 Final Paper—The Fight Against Racism and Discrimination Throughout history we have seen how racism has evolved and has impacted the lives of many minority groups in America. With the migration of people from different backgrounds all over the world, the United States has truly become a melting pot of cultures, religions and backgrounds. However, with this massive influx of people, nativism is bound to cause problems. Over time, through the efforts of different activist movements, there has been great progress with the issues of racism in America; but racism still exists to this day. During the World War II era from 1941 to 1945, immigrants from different backgrounds were brought together†¦show more content†¦However, issues came along when Mexican Americans in the southwest felt that they were being discriminated because they were getting paid less than what white workers were being paid to do the same jobs. To deal with this issue, activists rose up and brought their complaints to the Fair Employment Practices Commission. In 1942, The Executive Order 9066 issued by President Roosevelt forced people of Japanese descent from the West Coast to relocate to internment camps. This was the result of the fear of a Japanese invasion, and existing prejudice against the Japanese after the attack on Pearl Harbor. With what seemed to be an order based on race, many Japanese Americans refused to relocate. This was the case for Fred Korematsu, who did not show up for internment because he felt that the order was indeed an act of racism against the Japanese. During the time of the war, segregation was still in place to separate blacks from whites. African Americans experienced racism through segregation. The blood banks did not want to mix their blood with that of whites. During the Second Great Migration in 1941, about 700,000 blacks moved out of rural areas to the cities to find work but were treated with hostility at their housing and at the workplace. Even though blacks were able to serve in the army, they were still segregated from the rest of the other soldiers. They were also very limited in the positions that they could take on, with only a few enlisted as
